I think I may be a reccer at [livejournal.com profile] 221b_recs for May (and if not, I'll probably take a turn soon). I've noticed that there's nowhere near enough Elementary fic getting rec'd, which is a damn shame. So, since I have a bazillion Elementary fans on my flist: anyone have recs? I'm interested in genfic, and I haven't seen the show, but I don't care about getting spoiled, so anything's cool. Stories featuring Ms. Hudson and/or Clyde would be particularly appreciated. Or if there's awesome fanart, send that my way too (it's a multimedia recs comm).

(Next step: conquer my fear, watch the fucking show. You have no idea how useful tumblr has been for this--I have gotten used to these people's faces, so now I can process their existence! \0/ Plus, I love Candis Cayne so much omg. I can't be the only person who was addicted to Dirty Sexy Money on my flist, can I?)
In the course of mediating an ethically sticky and potentially explosive conflict about a project I'm working on, I ended up explaining what clearness is, because what I really wanted was for all of us to be clear before we move forward. (Faith and Practice of the New York Yearly Meeting, which is my yearly meeting, defines it as such: "A condition in which there are no perceived obstacles to a proposed course of action by an individual or meeting," but it is also a process used to help individuals or groups who are struggling with difficult issues to prayerfully find a way to work through their issues.)

Now I'm curious. Have any of you ever found yourself reaching for a term or framework or concept that's central to an ethical or religious system of yours, that you suddenly realize isn't one that's going to be collectively understood? Which ones?

Where would one go to buy nice makeup in London? Somewhere like Sephora, with salesclerks to help you pick the colors that suit you and high quality supplies. And, in addition, what's a likely place you might go to find make-up that's less high-end, but more ubiquitous? (In the US, this would likely be a pharmacy, or a large grocery store in the suburbs.)

Look, it's all [livejournal.com profile] amyhit's fault, OK?

Do any of you know Sinhala or Tamil? Or, in a pinch, any other South Asian languages (pref. not Urdu, but it'll do)? Lemme know if you do--I just need a couple of lines for a story I'm posting tomorrow, and I sure as hell don't trust Google Translate.

Anybody from DC? The George Washington Memorial Parkway: what do actual people driving it call it? (In case you were wondering: the highway up the east side of Manhattan is referred to as "the FDR," the one up the west side is called "the West Side Highway," always in full, and the highway that runs through Brooklyn and Queens is called "the BQE." The Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel is called either "the tunnel" or "the Battery tunnel" depending on context.)

1) When I get screened anonymous comments that are spam, I delete them, motherfuckers, so you are pointless and dumb. I don't understand how spamming works, I honestly don't.

2) Is there any particular reason that all the spammers want Foucault/Habermas? I am just asking. Seriously, like, one a week lately, if not more.
What's the standard warning for a ship with a huge age gap? Cross-generational? Inter-generational? Warning: nekkid old lady (implied)?

Yeah, you know what I'm writing.
