I want to thank whoever left the Caseyverse prompt at [community profile] queer_fest which I didn't seed in there via [livejournal.com profile] memories_child. And to let y'all know that, if someone not-me wants to claim it, you totally should; I'd love to see someone else write Casey. If it doesn't get written, I'll probably take a shot during amnesty.

Or, go claim something that isn't that one! Claims are open through Monday.

Title: Decked
Author: [personal profile] amalnahurriyeh/[livejournal.com profile] amalnahurriyeh
Fandom: The X-Files (Caseyverse)
Pairing/characters: Scully-Mulder Family Chaos
Rating: PG
Warnings: None
Angst Level: None
Summary: Christmas, after the end of the world.

This was originally going to be longer, and include Michelle and Mo ending up at her mom's house and having to explain that they'd been in the bunker, and Isabel ranting about being an atheist who had grown up in the Bible Belt to Jamila when she wondered why she was working on Christmas. But that did not happen, and I wanted to post this on Christmas, so. Enjoy.

Shit, shit, shit. )
Title: Mad Geniuses and Really Smart Sane People
Author: [personal profile] amalnahurriyeh/[livejournal.com profile] amalnahurriyeh
Fandom: Sherlock (BBC)
Pairing: Sherlock/John, intimations of Casey/Monica
Rating: Teen/PG-13 (language, implied sex)
Warnings: None
Angst Level: fluffy as hell
Timeline: Sherlock: Post-Reichenbach. Caseyverse: mostly before the action of Machines of Freedom.

Summary: John and Sherlock spend some time in Stark, Montana, saving the world from aliens. It's mostly not boring.

Author's Note:

Yeah, so, this is a bunch of Sherlock-and-John-go-to-Stark fluff. It's as random as you think it is. Enjoy my crack problem. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] maybe_amanda for the beta/cheerleading. You can also read it here on the AO3.

'Oh, weapons, really?  Tedious.' )
Shortly after the events of The Reichenbach Fall, Sherlock shows up...in Stark, Montana.

Plot points include:

1) the kidnapping of John by Stark members because Sherlock can't fight aliens without his blogger.
2) "You know that minor British government official you've been tracking, Mulder? His baby brother just showed up." "His brother is dead." "Your pregnant girlfriend cried on my shoulder at your funeral." "Point taken." (You can pick who the interlocutor is in this conversation.)
3) A ninja-off between Casey and Sherlock, just because I can.
Title: Simultaneity
Author: [personal profile] amalnahurriyeh/[livejournal.com profile] amalnahurriyeh
Fandom: The X-Files (Caseyverse)
Pairing/characters: gen; Mulder/Scully, Casey/Monica
Rating: PG-13 (rude language, grownups talking)
Warnings: None
Universe: Mulder-containing, in the AU where there are 2 Caseys rather than 1 at the end.
Angst Level: Moderate
Summary: "I think I want to believe that I am who I am."

Written for [livejournal.com profile] queer_fest 2012, for the prompt "Any Fandom with Alternate Universes, any characters, Character X learns that an alternate version of them is/was in a same-sex relationship and begins to question their sexuality."

For new readers: This fic takes place in the Caseyverse, which is the spin-off universe to my story Machines of Freedom. The basic plot of the Caseyverse is this: spoilers ) Too complicated? YOU'RE RIGHT, SORRY. Don't worry--you can just read this, and probably follow along!

You know what's actually hard about writing this? Believing in straight!Casey. In my preferred version of the Caseyverse story, both Caseys are queer. A Casey who only dates men is confusing. I hope I've done straight!Casey justice here.

Also: Bryn Mawrtyr is actually the proper noun for an alumna of Bryn Mawr College. I know this because I'm related to a couple. BEST ALUM NOUN Y/N.

I don't speak any South Asian languages, and I haven't done fieldwork in the region, so thanks to this post for a bit of appropriate phrasing.

I'm such a fucking cliche. )
Title: Raise It Up
Author: Amal Nahurriyeh ([personal profile] amalnahurriyeh)
Summary: This is a gift. It comes with a price. Fox Mulder, Oct 13, 1961-March 7, 2033.
Genre: ANGST ANGST ANGST ANGST. AU.
Rating: PG-13 (adult themes, references to sex, drugs, and rock and roll)
Warnings: Not a spoiler if it's the summary: Character death.
Angst Level: High.
Universe: Mulder-containing.
Disclaimer: Intellectual property is a capitalist fiction designed to oppress the working fic-writer. That said, I don't own them either.

Author's Notes:

Remember how I was writing stories about how Casey came back to the future? This is one of them. However, it's something bigger than that, as well. I should make exceptionally clear that I don't consider this Caseyverse Canon - BTTF 1 is the canon-est one. Insofar as there is canon for a project like this.

Thanks to [personal profile] memories_child for the beta work.

Vaguely a songfic for Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up), by Florence and the Machine. Title, epigraph, etc. Video here. Also owes a debt of tone, if not meaning, to Linda Blair Was Born Innocent, by the Mountain Goats. View it live on YouTube here. I'm happy to upload them if anyone wants them,

There's a joke in here that only makes sense if you've seen this sculpture. This view of it in particular.

Excessively Personal Author's Notes:

I started this story in January, when I wanted to die.

In May, when I was nearly finished it, my father dropped dead of a heart attack.

My father was an amazing man. He was funny, he was the nicest person anybody's ever known, he was passionate and creative and so endlessly loving. He was the parent I try to be.

And I am still the little girl who drew pictures of herself roaring with him in preschool.

***

I start spinning slipping out of time
Was that the wrong pill to take (raise it up)
You made a deal, and now it seems you have to offer up
But will it ever be enough

Title: Split (Or: How Casey Came Back To The Future, Version 2)
Author: Amal Nahurriyeh ([personal profile] amalnahurriyeh)
Summary: Some things can't be reduced down to unity.
Genre: Crack. Internal AU.
Rating: PG-13 (language)
Warnings: None.
Angst Level: Medium-low.
Universe: Mulder-containing.
Timeline: Takes place in 2035.
Disclaimer: Intellectual property is a capitalist fiction designed to oppress the working fic-writer. That said, I don't own them either.

A/N: This is probably the crackiest of the BTTF scenarios. And I love it, a little. Thanks to [personal profile] memories_child for the beta.

Anybody who thought the last one had echoes of Fringe...well, this one is worse.

'Well, that was interesting.'  )
Title: Merger (Or: How Casey Came Back To The Future, Version 1)
Author: Amal Nahurriyeh ([personal profile] amalnahurriyeh)
Summary: Waking up can be confusing.
Genre: Crack. Internal AU (ish).
Rating: PG-13 (language, behavior unbecoming a woman in her late 20s)
Warnings: None.
Angst Level: Medium-low.
Universe: Mulder-containing.
Timeline: Takes place in 2035.
Disclaimer: Intellectual property is a capitalist fiction designed to oppress the working fic-writer. That said, I don't own them either.

A/N: I am writing out a series of ways that Casey might have returned after her adventure in Stark. None of them are intended to be precisely accurate representations of what happened--think of them as exploring the possibilities. I will grant, though, that this is the only one that is consistent with the established post-2035 Caseyverse canon, so you're welcome to take it as the canonical one. (Everybody who wants to laugh at me for referring to my crack problem as having a 'canon' is more than welcome to.)

Expect more, of varying levels of seriousness, over the next few weeks.

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] maybe_amanda for the quick-turnaround beta, and for encouraging the lulz.

'I'm wearing leather boots.'  )
Title: Family Reunions
Author: Amal Nahurriyeh ([personal profile] amalnahurriyeh)
Summary: Things get put back together.
Genre: Gen; Kidfic.
Rating: PG (adult themes, but no strong language or violence)
Warnings: None.
Angst Level: Low to moderate (being a grownup is hard)
Universe: Mulder-containing.
Timeline/Spoilers: Set in 2013.
Disclaimer: Intellectual property is a capitalist fiction designed to oppress the working fic-writer. That said, I don't own them either.

Author's Notes: This owes a debt of cheerleading to both [personal profile] wendelah1, for whom the first Gina Van de Kamp story was written, and who encouraged me to finish this and get it posted, and [livejournal.com profile] maybe_amanda, who beta'd both this and the previous story, and nagged me to finish a couple of times.

Title: Five Times Cassandra Scully-Mulder Got Dressed Up for Halloween
Author: Amal Nahurriyeh, [personal profile] amalnahurriyeh
Summary: She cleans up good.
Pairings: Mulder/Scully; Casey/Hot Girl At Party; Casey/Monica
Rating: PG-13 (implied sexytimes, strong language)
Angst Level: Low to none.
Warnings: None.
Universe: Mulder-containing.
Timeline/Spoilers: occurs from 2009-2037.

A/N: Written for [livejournal.com profile] spookyhalloween. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] memories_child for coming up with the idea!

This has like twelve thousand weirdo references in it, so if you don't get something, ask.

My Spanish in this has not been betaed. Neither has the English, except by my wife, but I'm marginally more competent at that, as is she. Let me know if you see things, and I'll try to remember to change them.

Since I know I picked up new readers, heads up: Casey/Monica is a ship with a massive age differential, and it's talked about in the fic.

Oh, and if you're curious about the outfits (though liberties have been taken, obviously):
Part One
Part Two, with alterations as described
Part Three
Part Four
Part Five

Mulder was not convinced this was a good idea. )
Title: The Old X Designation
Author: Amal Nahurriyeh, [personal profile] amalnahurriyeh/[livejournal.com profile] amalnahurriyeh, amalnahurriyeh at gmail dot com
Summary: "There's a pattern now? Back in my day it was all just sort of random."
Genre: Gen, crackfic
Rating: PG
Timeline/Spoilers: Fringe: Sometime during season 1; no spoilers for anything on the mytharc, but vague references to s1 MOTWs. X-Files: Set in the Caseyverse, pre-MoF. Probably my dates do not actually line up well, but I'm letting it go.

A/N: For those who are new to the Caseyverse, the relevant things you need to know are: here )

For those who are new to Fringe, the relevant things you need to know are: here )

Thanks to [personal profile] wendelah1 for the beta, and encouraging the madness.

Are you sure about this, Liv? )
Title: All That Their Hearts Conceal
Author: Amal Nahurriyeh ([personal profile] amalnahurriyeh)
Summary: Summer Ramzan is always the worst.
Genre: Gen
Rating: PG-13 (some cursing)
Warnings: None.
Angst Level: Low.
Timeline/Spoilers: Pre-MOF; takes place during Ramadan 1433/August 2012.
Disclaimer: Intellectual property is a capitalist fiction designed to oppress the working fic-writer. That said, I don't own them either. There are some characters in here that bear some resemblance to characters from The X-Files. Funny how that goes. Oh, hey, look at all these awesome science ladies!

A/N: Written for [community profile] eid_ka_chand's 2010 Eid Ficathon. The title is from the juz [portion of the Qur'an] for 20 Ramadan, Sura al-Qisas, 28:69, "And thy Lord knows all that their hearts conceal and all that they reveal." Many thanks to [personal profile] kairia and [personal profile] troisroyaumes for the very helpful betas.

There's a glossary at the end for those who aren't familiar with Islamic terminology or South Asian food. Pakora recipe here. A nice column about a Pakistani-American Eid celebration with recipes for both sweets and savory dishes here. Sukhadia's Sweets here. Everything there is good, I can attest personally.

For those who are coming from [community profile] eid_ka_chand, this is a part of an ongoing universe, the Caseyverse, which follows my long story Machines of Freedom. Brief details about the setting and universe under the cut (so that Caseyverse readers don't have to read through it):

About the Caseyverse. )

Caseyverse readers, this is the Jamila mentioned in chapter 8 of MoF and Casey's note in Memories Made. Writing fanfic of your own fanfic: bizarre.

***

This bunker, Jamila told herself, as she transferred cultures into a new dish, was very closely climate controlled. All the time. )

( Sep. 8th, 2010 09:37 am)
[community profile] eid_ka_chand is a community dedicated to promoting positive representations of Muslim characters in fanworks; every year, it runs a ficathon for Eid al-Fitr, the holiday at the end of Ramadan. Well, Eid starts on Friday (I actually have a friend celebrating Eid today, because she has very peculiar opinions about the timing of holidays), and posting will go Friday through Sunday.

In addition to the ficathon, this year they're holding a fundraiser for Pakistan flood relief, encouraging people to sponsor the fanworks in whatever amount they can. I'm down for $0.50/fanwork, but there are people giving only for particular genres (meta, fic, art) and people giving more or less, depending on their ability.

If you've got a fandom with a Muslim character in it (they've got a list here), putting something together for this ficathon would have a huge multiplier effect, because of all the people donating per work. Or, if you don't have the time or a fandom that works, chip in to sponsor your favorite genre of work, or everything. I read through a bunch of last year's stories, and they're really great.

(Oh, and there's a parallel LJ community, [livejournal.com profile] eid_fic.)

...

In entirely related news, expect new Caseyverse, er, I guess before the 12th?
