I am worried my home is about to be home to a ship war.
My wife is so desperate for fic that she's reading John/Lestrade.
She keeps reading me bits.
Having showed her this post: "Not on purpose! It's coming up by accident!" So she says.
[Disclaimer: obviously I think shipwars are ridiculous and people can ship what they want and I kind of view the extent to which I OTP in my fandoms and hyperventilate about the ~~mere possibility~~ of alternate pairings to be a moral deficiency. But still. Traitor.]

Under Isk's direction this afternoon, he, Leigh, and I put on a play. I was the bad guy, Leigh was the princess, and he was "the pretty detective."
...I deny all responsibility for that.

um, yes, THIS EXACTLY. Loath as I am to admit it, I've only ever had one fandom where I could truly consider myself a multi-shipper (as in, liking more than one pairing or moresome involving the same character), but I always feel intensely guilty when I have a hard time liking things other than my OTP! Or, even worse, if I read a poly fic that involves my OTP, it often just reads to me as OTP + extra people for fun, even if all the relationships are intended to be more reciprocal. /o\

I don't think I've read enough poly fic to have a general sense--but I think I do tend to see my OTP as the center of it, and their other relationships as corollary to that.

(Not least because, for me to ship two characters, I have to have a vague sense that they could, eventually, form a healthy and mutually supportive long-term relationship that would bring out the best in them and allow them to grow as people, and HA HA HA HA no.)

No, I get that; I tend to read for much the same reasons. She assures me it's a great story, and I'm sure it is, but it's also not my cup of tea. ;)

Of course I'm always happy to see people happy. Have at, I say. I'll be over in my own corner devouring my own favorite pairing fic.
