Some days, the universe gives you a crossover between your current fandom obsession and your kid's.

Or http://keepingtrackoflosttime.tumblr.com/
Or http://x-fileslove.tumblr.com/ She stopped following me because I love Diana Fowley (and had the nerve to say it out loud) but she reblogs everything xfiles on tumblr. Seriously, everything. She is like one-stop shopping for the x-files tag.
Then there is http://confessionsxfconfessions.tumblr.com/, which I follow, and its parent community: http://confessionsxf.tumblr.com/, which I do not.
http://hoidn.tumblr.com/ is tree.
Everyone you know is on tumblr. I do not advise adding them all unless you never want to leave the house. I only follow a bare handful of people and to be frank, I block most everything they post. Too many gifs. Too many television shows I don't want to see. And. Well. Too many pictures of mens, basically.
You will also want Tumblr savior for the purpose of blocking, the version for whatever browser you use. I've blocked entire blogs so I don't have to read their racist, sexist crap or see faked pictures of naked movie actors if I want to look at a tag like "elementary." You can use it to block "elementary" so you don't have to see it on your dash at all.
Have fun!

I have no idea how often I'll end up on tumblr; if I think of it as "twitter for pictures" then I have a good sense of why it might be fun, but I have not yet worked up to figuring out how one uses words on there.
(I am super excited that there is live happy joyous xf fandom on tumblr. NOT DED YAY.)

There is also art and photography and cartoons and links and recipes, just like there used to be on LJ. It is very easy to post a photo. You don't have to host it somewhere else. I have no idea how to use words on Tumblr either. I switched to html and hand code so I have paragraph breaks but I still haven't figured out how to put stuff behind a "read more" cut. From what I can see, most of the other folk there haven't either. The Faq is useless. I stopped the endless scrolling, which I think is one of the features most people love but it loads too slowly and freezes my slow connection. Even ten things are a lot for my computer to load there. It runs super slowly.
Like I said, there are more people there than you can possibly watch and anyway, most of what they post you won't care about, but it is a fun place to check into once a day. Set a timer.
