This is the post where we make fun of my wife for staying up until dawn to read the third of the books in the 50 Shades of Grey trilogy.

At least when I stay up until dawn reading porn, it's usually well-written.

(Once it was Iolokus. That was a great night.)

I think I mainlined all four (howlingly bad) Twilight books in a few days, with bonus quoting-particularly-purple-lines-to-cousin.

Oh, man. Iolokus. BEST EVER. (Oh my god, ~2000 dial-up.)

That book. My sister, who must buy all of three books a year, bought and read that book. She didn't care for it so at least she has taste.

The thing that bothers me about it selling so well isn't so much that it's bad; after all, most mass market paperbacks aren't exactly high art. It's that the association of it with fanfiction has made me (me!) go deeper into the fandom closet than I've ever been. I would never tell anyone that I write fanfiction now.

On the other hand, maybe it will be the incentive I need to stop writing fic and write something original.
